About CLIP
At CLIP, our mission is to cultivate a welcoming and inclusive community for immigrants and newcomers in Calgary. We connect government agencies, newcomer-serving organizations, and various community groups—including faith communities, schools, cultural societies, and social and recreational groups—to share ideas and practical approaches for addressing the unique needs of newcomers. CLIP also conducts and shares research on newcomer communities and local immigration data. Check out our latest research.
Focus areas
Promoting open conversations about mental health in newcomer communities to reduce stigma.
Enabling more access to sport to promote health and community engagement.
Educating the community about the valuable contributions of immigrants to Calgary.
CLIP is one of over 90 Local Immigrant Partnerships across Canada designed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to support the development of community-based partnerships that build welcoming communities. We’re also a proud member of the Gateway Partnership, a collaboration of organizations working to connect refugees and immigrants to best fit programs and services.
HOW DOES CLIP WORK?
CLIP is made up of a Partnership Council (Council), The Immigrant Advisory Table (IAT), and Action Teams that all work together to advance our strategic plan.
The Council sets priorities for action and meets every month. It has two co-chairs and members are appointed.
The Immigrant Advisory Table are recruited volunteers from the community. It is lead by two co-chairs who are also members of the Partnership Council. Members provides recommendations and input based on lived experience, and can sit on various action teams.
The Action teams are recruited on an as needed basis. The focus area varies year to year and is based on the priorities set by Council.
CLIP Partnership Council
The CLIP Partnership Council is made up of leaders who are passionate about and committed to CLIP’s mission of fostering a welcoming and inclusive community for immigrants and newcomers in Calgary. Each Council member represents a sector with an interest in the well-being of newcomers. The Council oversees the strategy and action plan to contribute to a more welcoming and inclusive Calgary.
Immigrant Advisory Table
The Immigrant Advisory Table (IAT) is made up of volunteers who were born outside of Canada. They represent a variety of ages, educational backgrounds, countries of origin, and lived experiences. Members share their perspectives to help the CLIP Council create a settlement strategy that considers immigrants' needs in community planning, fosters a welcoming and inclusive community, and encourages the full participation of all residents. The IAT co-chairs sit on the Partnership Council. Members volunteer for two-year terms and new members are recruited every year. Learn More about volunteering with the IAT.
Action Teams
CLIP Action Teams focus on a particular area of the immigration experience in an effort to identify service gaps or challenges facing immigrants within that area. Each team is made up of community members with experience and expertise in that area, who use their knowledge and skills to improve newcomers’ experiences in Calgary.
FUNDING
CLIP does not provide services or funding. Local Immigration Partnerships do not fund activities or projects nor do they deliver services directly to newcomers. Instead, LIPs provide a collaborative framework to facilitate the creation of sustainable solutions for the successful integration of newcomers in their communities. To support our community partners working with newcomers, we maintain a listing of current funding opportunities in our monthly newsletter.
Celebrating Calgarians
CLIP launched the #CalgaryForAll campaign to celebrate the diversity of the many people who make up Calgary. People from all over the world have made Calgary their home bringing their skills, their talents, their energy and their passions to the city #ImmigrationMatters.
