What we do

CLIP Community ACTION PLAN 2023 - 2024

The overarching result that we want to see remains the same: Immigrants in Calgary have a high quality of life.

For 2023 two priorities emerged: anti-racism and collaboration. These will be our ‘upstream’ priorities, or our foundational priorities that will direct all goals and actions. Under those two two goals, or areas of focus were identified:

  • For anti-racism: economic wellbeing and physical and emotional wellness.

  • For collaboration: physical and emotional wellness and full engagement in all aspects of community life.

Council is working on specific actions in June and July and identifying partners for collective action. A detailed plan will be posted when ready.

Further, for the CLIP office two added priorities were identified: information sharing and advocacy. Part of this will be ongoing websites updates, and more information sharing through our social media channels of the amazing sector organizations.

How we got here

June 2023 - Council met and revived prioritized survey feedback, confirmed priorities and areas of focus, as well as began to assign names to actions.

April to May 2023 - IAT and Council members prioritized identified priorities and actions, reviewed past actions through an online survey.

March 2023 - A joint meeting between the IAT and CLIP Council was held to review all feedback that is going into the development of the action plan. This includes:

  • Past action plan.

  • Governance review report and new model.

  • Feedback from current IAT and Council members collected in past meetings.

  • Feedback from Action team members and recommendations provided by members for next steps.

  • Feedback from City of Calgary staff.

  • Feedback from the community received through the February 2023 All CLIP meeting and online tool.

February 2023 - We hosted an All CLIP meeting with community partners who were given an opportunity to participate in facilitated discussions for informing the next CLIP action plan. A full What We Heard Report was created and you can also see the Presentation Slides.

Past CLIP Community ACTION PLANs: 2018 and 2021 - 2022

At the end of November 2018, the very first CLIP Action Plan 2018-2020 was launched. It was an extremely ambitious plan to launch pilots, establish networks, monitor and gather best practices and ultimately to meet the outcomes identified by the community in the Settlement Strategy 2018-2020. We did well but we did not accomplish everything we had set out to do, you can read the full CLIP Community Report.

Following the first a second more specific action plan was create, you can see the full Community Action Plan for 2021-22.

CLIP RESEARCH

All LIPs are required to conduct local research. See our research tab for the latest research reports.

From time to time we will post requests for proposal for research. These will be posted on our website, promoted through our newsletter and shared in our social media channels. Currently there are no active requests. These will be based on our next action plan.

LIP Data Dashboard: The LIP Dashboard launched in February 2020 can be accessed at https://LIPdata.ca. The site has regional pages with other data and information about LIPs in each IRCC region. This includes fact sheets, maps, immigrant profiles, collective impact survey results, economic profiles, and research reports.

LIPs Network CDP Initiative: Nationally, CLIP worked with the Community Data Program (CDP) to create the national LIPs Network CDP Initiative to provide all LIPs in Canada with easy access to immigration data. For more information about this program, visit the LIPs CDP Initiative page at https://LIPdata.ca.

CLIP CAMPAIGNS

CLIP believes that immigration matters and to show support we have joined the federal #ImmigrationMatters campaign. Did you know that in Calgary, in 2021, 33.3% of people were immigrants? Or that 68% of recent immigrants to Calgary have a post-secondary education? Check out additional facts and figures on why #ImmigrationMatters to Calgary. CLIP is made up of impressive community leaders with diverse stories to tell and so we have also launched the #CalgaryForAll campaign to spread the good news.

CLIP EVENTS

The overall objective of the LIPs initiative across Canada is to enhance collaboration, coordination, and strategic planning at the community level in order to foster more welcoming and inclusive communities, and improve settlement and integration outcomes. CLIP provides opportunities for local organizations to work together to develop and implement a strategy and actions to help newcomers integrate into Calgary more easily. Visit our CLIP Community Events page for more information about current events.

FUNDING

CLIP does not provide services or funding. Local Immigration Partnerships do not fund activities or projects nor do they deliver services directly to newcomers. Instead, LIPs provide a collaborative framework to facilitate the creation of sustainable solutions for the successful integration of newcomers in their communities. To support our community partners working with newcomers, we maintain a listing of current funding opportunities in our monthly newsletter.
